Energy is crucial to Juneau’s future. We need to vigorously support and pursue hydroelectric and other clean, renewable energy sources. The new Lake Dorothy addition to Juneau’s energy grid is a huge step forward. New opportunities and jobs will result from an abundance of low-cost power. Increased clean electrical power means we can take Greens Creek Mine off diesel power. It means we can work toward plugging in all the cruise ships to shore power and eventually replace our diesel busses with a clean electric transit system. Juneau could even become the first carbon neutral Capital City in America.
